This visualization shows the relationship between congress members and political action committees. Congress members are listed with their home states on the top of the screen, and PACs by category on the bottom. The width of each item is proportional to the total amount taken or given.
Mouse over congress members and PACs to see a summary. Zoom into the outer category by clicking the outer bars. Show the connections between the two groups by clicking on the inner bars. Connections grow in height, pulling blocks out on the opposite side. Double-click the inner bars to show or hide all blocks in the group. Expanded blocks highlight connected items on the opposite side when moused over. Use the arrows in the upper left and lower left to reorder by total amount or state name for congress members and category or subcategory for PACs. Click detail to see the raw data behind the visualization. Data is gathered from Sunlight Labs, the FEC and opensecrets.org.
